Hello, my name is Lexi Young!
Lexi Young and her wife started their mutual aid music dance project Strut The Yard in 2023 by inviting their friends and community to dance with them through the streets of Chapel Hill and redistributing some of the funds to community members in need in their home of Durham, NC.
Lexi is a performer and entertainer at heart, a mixed Black queer femme raised by the mountains of San Diego then spending her young adulthood pounding the pavement of New York City for nearly ten years - spending 12 years of their life working all over the country and even some time out of the US as an actor and singer gathering experiences such as singing backup for Broadway actors at Sony’s Hall to performing on the Dream, one of Disney’s Cruise Ships to touring with the 20th Anniversary of RENT the Musical to Tokyo. Since moving to Durham and founding Strut The Yard, Lexi has refocused their passion for storytelling, community care, and music studying the intersections of pleasure activism, dance, music, and the healing of marginalized communities.
A silent disco is an experience where attendees wear wireless headphones to listen to the same music, allowing you to dance and party without disturbing the surroundings. You control the volume, making it a unique and immersive experience!
Absolutely! While we center and uplift our Queer BIPOC kin, we welcome all bodies, identities, and expressions. Our events celebrate diversity and inclusivity.
